One interesting idea for this piece would be to make the angel and demon a singular being; one side being light, with billowy white wings, the other dark, with leathery, veiny wings.

Japanese art is by far one of the most common influences when it comes to body art. Many people prefer Hindu tattoos that are small and simple, but interesting in design. These are generally done in symbols, one of the most popular being, of course, the Om (or Aum) symbol, which represents three important gods, worlds and sacred scriptures. It is also the symbol to one of the most important sounds created by God, and is at the center of everything. For this design you could use the usual Devanagari, or something a bit different like the very stylized and sharp Tamil or Tibetan scripts. One interesting idea would be to recreate the four stages of life into an Indian folk art style; the first stage being a young child pouring diligently over his or her books, the second could be a large, boldy colored wedding. Hindu Tattoos

Given that there are over 200 types of this particular brand of serpent, there is quite a bit to choose from for your cobra tattoos. One of the world’s longest venomous snakes, and by far the most popular for body art, is the king cobra. These snakes can be done in their natural hues of dark brown, fading into a light yellow; however, many people prefer to use a stark green tone with a bright yellow underbelly. Another popular cobra is the Naja kaouthia; these come in several colors, but are most commonly done in a dark black, or bright yellow shade, with a contrasting hue for the underbelly and oval marking at the back of its hood. Cobra Tattoos

To start, it may help to know what several leaves mean. Many leaf tattoos feature ivy, – the leaf itself being a symbol of fidelity and growth – many others may use maple leaves (a symbol for an independent spirit), four leaf clovers (a talisman for luck) and occasionally even marijuana leaves (a symbol generally used to represent certain cultural ideals). Leaf Tattoos

Given the unique appearance of this creature, many people like to create jellyfish tattoos that are boldly colored, and intricate in design. One example of this is to create something that looks like an elaborate illustration, or something from a fantasy painting. This may be done in several ways, such as creating thin crude lines for the tentacles, and a round, plated disc for the body; you could also create something with thicker tentacles, with bright colors that fade into each other, and something similar in appearance to an umbrella for the body.

Some jellyfish tattoos take on a more realistic feel. Jellyfish Tattoos

One of the most frequently seen compass tattoos is the compass rose. This elegant figure is a relatively simple design; a small circle, with two stars placed on top of each other, a rose at the center, and the directions placed at each tip. Many people, however, choose to create a more intricate piece with these compass tattoos. They may be seen in gold or bronze colors, or they may be done in bright shades of blue, yellow, red and orange. Compass Tattoos

Many people like to make their crown tattoos to be the main attraction of their artwork. Two of the most popular crown tattoos in this style are the Imperial and tiara crowns. The Imperial crown usually sports a flat, or domed top that has a similar shape to a mushroom, and is surrounded by bands of metal, which is decorated with a multitude of jewels; while a tiara, though smaller, is equally emblazoned in jewels, usually with white diamonds, but occasionally with gems of a dark green, blue or red hue. The idea behind urban tattoos it to replicate images seen down streets, on cars and in art; for instance, urban tattoos often feature scrawling, graffiti-like script that boldly states names, quotes and occasionally dates. Many water tattoos show this element by itself. For example, you could show frothy waves wrapped around an arm or a leg; you could create a moon-shaped crescent out of a roiling ocean; you could create a spiraling whirlpool, a small placid lake, or a simple splash of blue water. Water Tattoos

Many pitbull tattoos feature only the head, face and occasionally shoulders of this dog. This style can range from a cute cartoon image to a fierce creature baring its sharp teeth. It is not uncommon to see the strong features of a pitbull’s face, lined in an angry expression, with close-cropped ears and cold, savage eyes. Pitbull Tattoos

Some deer tattoos depict this animal in one of its many mythic incarnations. For example, you could use the image of Artemis — the Greek hunting goddess — riding a splendorous carriage with four golden-horned deer; for a bit of extra detail, you might also show Hercules presenting a fourth deer to Artemis. Deer Tattoos

Elephant tattoos can be either very realistic, or very cartoon-ish. The latter seems to be the preferred style. These generally exaggerate features such as the trunk, ears and tusks. They usually sport long eyelashes and an innocent appearance, and are generally seen in unusual situations; for example, being led on a leash, or laying in the lap of a pin up model, fairy or possibly even the wearer himself. The more realistic versions show the elephant in great detail, often showing every line in its thick skin. Tiki Tattoos

Most anchor tattoos feature a variety of symbols, the anchor itself being the emblem that keeps everything else in place. People frequently use other maritime images such as swallows, compasses, ropes and wheels; banners featuring names, dates or quotes are also quite common. However, some people like to use more uncommon images, for instance, a snake or vines wrapped around the shank of the anchor, or flowers surrounding the band; a heart placed near the bottom, or along the palms; you can even place an ornate crown around the ring, or dangling jauntily from the stock.

Many people prefer their anchor tattoos to be simple. These designs are often shown by themselves; however, if they do show other items, they are usually small, and are only meant to enhance the main theme of the anchor. One of the most frequently used versions of this design shows the anchor in outline. These are usually done with a vague black line that fades in the middle, showing the details inside. Sometimes, though, this image is done in stark black lines, and only show the outline. Another idea is to use a filled-in version of the outline style, and create a thick, black anchor. For a bit of extra color, you could show a bright red rose growing between the arm and the shank.

When placed by themselves, it is fairly common to also see anchor tattoos that feature a good deal of detail. With this version, many people prefer to use a realistic metallic hue, as well as gold and copper colors. However, you may occasionally see watery blues or greens. One of the most common designs feature curlicues; either simple, or branching away from a main stem. Emblems such as family crests and flags can also be utilized for a larger amount of detail.

Some anchor tattoos are used in scenes. They can be shown in a realistic image; set below a billowy blue ocean, surrounded by seaweed and a sandy bottom. Anchor Tattoos

Some of the most popular and recognizable Oriental tattoos feature things such as dragons and koi fish, warriors and geisha. Dragons are frequently done in a style similar to statuary; they are placed in an immobile stance, seemingly struck in mid-flight, tail rippling, jaws wide open. They are regularly seen in reds and golds, black, jade green and sometimes even purple; while koi fish are almost invariably done in a bright orange, and are often seen fighting their way up a wild stream. Most warriors and geisha are done in a traditional wood block style; the warriors are seen either swiping their swords through the air, or in battle with each other. Large sprays of wisteria; a long, arching stalk of phalenopsis orchids, with delicate white flowers and dark pink centers, and weeping cherry blossom trees are also quite common for Oriental tattoos. For an interesting variation on the classic flower motif, you could create a silhouette style with contrasting white cut into black, or black cut into white. In this style you could also add small birds on the branches of trees, or emerging from a small bush filled with flowers.

Patterns, either in the background or unto themselves, may also be used for Oriental tattoos. These designs feature stark geometrical patterns with consistent symmetry. They are often simple spiraling circles, or blocks of color; however, they can consist of anything from precisely arranged fans, seemingly disarrayed leaves and butterflies, or a mixture of shapes, plant life, water, animals and sometimes even buildings. Occasionally these patterns can be used to create a larger scene. For instance, the spiral shapes can be used as a cloudy sky, or tempestuous ocean; while the blocks of color can create buildings, bicycles, trees or mountains. You can also add full, slick lines to create people and animals to add to your scene.

Oriental tattoos are quite stylish and only becoming more popular throughout time. This is understandable, as they are not only pleasing to look at, but hold a vast array of meaning and symbolism within every detail.

Wildlife takes a strong place in nature tattoos. Wolves, tigers and lions are some of the preferred images, as they often represent varying degrees of strength and ferocity. Nature Tattoos

The dilemma that many people face when searching for seahorse tattoos is choosing the right style. Two of the most popular styles are cute cartoon images, and what appears to be an angry, inflamed creature. Though these are two interesting and viable options, there are many more to choose from.

More refined seahorse tattoos can be done in a style that looks embossed, or even carved. This style can be done in lush, velvety solid colors, metallic hues or — for a more interesting look — have a marbled or wood-like appearance. For added effect, you can throw in gems, flowers or highly stylized waves. You can also create a scene with the water and add things like coral and seaweed to the background.

Many people prefer fantasy seahorse tattoos. Although similar in nature to the cartoon style, these are often less cute, and more chimerical. Seahorse Tattoos

Many sea turtle tattoos feature this creature in a simple manner. They are generally rather small, and show a realistic picture of one of the seven living species. In this version, they may occasionally be shown swimming in a gush of water, or floating above an ocean floor. An interesting twist would be to show the the green sea turtle surrounded by coral and rocks, all in varying shades of blue, so as to give the appearance of being lit under deep, dark waters.

Sea turtle tattoos often show intricate details on the shell. These designs may show the sea turtle as a whole, or the shell by itself. For example, one may create an oval over a large area of the body that has small, whorling tiles in shades of green, brown or even yellow. They may also feature bolder colors, gems, or metallic shades. You can also create a mosaic design that shows other symbols, such as stars or the sun, or the open blossom of a flower. To continue with a more nautical theme, you could also etch the image of a compass rose into the back of your sea turtle.

Some people prefer sea turtle tattoos that feature a larger variety of images, or an unusual depiction. Hawaiian and tribal turtles are two great examples of the former.
