Octopus Tattoos, Designs, Pictures, and Ideas

tattoo designs

To some people, octopus tattoos signify grace, adaptability, intellect and wisdom. To others, they hold very little significant meaning; they simply think they are beautiful.

Most octopus tattoos feature a realistic depiction. These designs are generally done in a larger style and may show the octopus wrapping its long tentacles around the wearer; either around the back and sides, arms or even legs. This style may also feature this creature in its natural setting; a dark blue ocean scene, large rocks and hunks of coral, and possibly even small fish surrounding it. One interesting idea would be to create a scene of the octopus wrestling with a diver wearing a large antique helmet, and heavy suit.

Many octopus tattoos show this creature in an unusual way. The eight long arms could be morphed into a similar image as a hypnotists’ spiral disc wheel; the suckers may be turned into small pearls; and the round body could be turned into the image of a globe, while the tentacles are used to depict the strong waves of the ocean. Given the almost otherworldly appearance, many octopus tattoos feature a creature similar to an alien or large bug. The body could easily be morphed into a brain, with large and sinister eyes, perhaps even fangs; while the tentacles may be barbed, or even have the appearance of secreting a lime green poison. You could take this image a step further and invent an octopus robot. The body and arms made of shiny metal, red eyes and guns or fire blazing from the suckers.

Although some octopus tattoos show a more aggressive figure, some may take a softer approach. This image is generally done in a cartoon style, and shows the octopus in light colors of purple, blue and occasionally even yellow. Some people like to show the creature with an overly large body, and very small tentacles; sometimes they have large doe eyes and a cheerful expression. This style often depicts the creature in motion; playing with its fellow deep sea life, lifting a hat from its head or going through any number of human-like motions.

Although there are many ways to depict the octopus, there is no denying that whatever you choose, it will undoubtedly be one of the more unique pieces around.
